On 24 September 1884, the Anjuman Himayat-e-Islam was established, whose founders Khan Najmuddin Khan, Khalifa Hamiduddin, Khalifa Imaduddin, Maulvi Ghulamullah Kasuri, Sheikh Karim Bakhsh, Sheikh Khair Din, Dr. Muhammad Din Nazer and Haji Shamsuddin organized a struggle for the religious and mental reform of Muslims, their education, training and welfare.
The motivation for the establishment of this Anjuman was also the same passion that prompted Sir Syed Ahmed Khan to establish Aligarh College. Around the beginning of the twentieth century, this Anjuman was established with the efforts of Qazi Khalifa Hamiduddin and its office was opened in a small house in Haveli Sikandar Khan in Lahore. Qazi Sahib’s colleagues included Maulvi Ghulamullah, Munshi Abdul Rahim, Munshi Chirag Din, Haji Mir Shamsuddin, Khan Najmuddin and Dr. Muhammad Din Nazir.
